Learning Styles & Multiple Inteligences

MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES AND LEARNING STYLES

A simple definition of them is: they are the ways to people learn. There are three learning styles: visual learners, auditory learners and kinaesthetic learners. About multiple intelligences there are eight: Linguistic intelligence, Logical-mathematical intelligence, Spatial intelligence, Bodily-Kinesthetic intelligence, Musical intelligence, Interpersonal intelligence, intrapersonal intelligence and naturalist intelligence.

As a teacher they can help us to propose an interesting foreign language class. We can recognize the better way to guide students learning process. The teacher can use different kinds of materials and suggest harmonious activities depending the students' unique mind or she/he can offer interesting lecture, develop students to self-discovery; make they focus on principles, applications; take advantage of memory, etc.

In contrast, the teacher must analyze and employ different approach and methods, developing flexible schedule in order to prevent the class become boring, monotonous and irrelevant. Focus the foreign language class, on learning styles or multiple intelligences is to classify the students and their learning as if they are fixed reasoning. At the same time, the teacher must take into account the learning conditions, the context and the previous knowledge.

In conclusion, multiple intelligences and learning styles are important in learning and teaching because they show how each one acquire information or skill but, they are just a part of every factors which are essential in learning and teaching processes.

I agree with you. I think you summarize well the purpose of both theories and models. How about not only thinking in the positive aspects of it, but in the negatives? Wouldn’t it be challenging to think about a lesson using more than one intelligence and learning style?
